Not All Mobile Calibrators Are Created Equal

Mobile ADAS calibration can be convenient, efficient, and just as accurate as a brick-and-mortar facility. But only if they come prepared.

And too many mobile techs out there are showing up with a scanner and a prayer—and shops are the ones left holding the bag when something goes wrong.

So before you hand over your next vehicle to “the guy in the van,” ask yourself:

Do they have these 5 things?

1. A Level Surface & Proper Space Setup

OEMs are crystal clear about calibration environments. A slight slope, uneven concrete, or tight workspace can throw the whole thing off.

If they’re setting up targets in a sloped parking lot with a light pole in the way, they’re not doing it right.

2. OEM Procedures — Not “Just Experience”

Experience is great. Documentation is better.

If they can’t pull up the specific OEM procedure and walk you through it step-by-step?They’re winging it.And your liability just went through the roof.

3. Target Boards, Alignment Tools, and Lighting

These aren’t optional tools. They’re required equipment to do the job right. Ask to see them.

If all they’ve got is a scanner and a folding chair, they’re not calibrating. They’re just clearing codes and crossing fingers.

4. Documentation of the Process

If there’s no proof it was done right, it wasn’t done at all.

You should get pre-scan, post-scan, calibration reports, and photos of the setup. If they say “it’s not necessary,” ask yourself: what else are they skipping?

5. The Integrity to Say “No” When the Setup Isn’t Right

A real pro will walk away if the conditions don’t meet OEM requirements.A code clearer will do it anyway and hope you don’t ask questions.

Guess which one ends up testifying in court?(Hint: it’s not the one who walked.)

Final Word: Pick Your Partner Like Your Liability Depends on It

Because it does.
